July 7th - Symform PDF Print E-mail

Sponsor: Symform

Presenter: Praerit Grag, President and Co-founder - RSVP

Presentation Topic: Cooperative Storage Cloud

Date: July 7th, 2009 - 6:30pm

We will be having Praerit Grag from Symform present on their Cooperative Storage Cloud.  Prior to Symform, Praerit spent 13 years at Microsoft where he was a Senior Director in Microsoft's Server and Tools division.  During his tenure, he built and managed the Dynamic Systems Platform & Tools team.  Under his leadership, the team grew from 0 to over 70 people and drove a broad industry initiative to expand W3C's XML standards to incorporate modeling enhancements called Service Modeling Language (SML).  The team also delivered technology and solutions across several Microsoft products, including the distributed modeling system in Visual Studio 2007, Group Policy tools in Windows Vista/Server 2008, Server Manager in Windows Server 2008 and Desired Configuration Management in System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

Symform Overview:
Running a business without reliable offsite data protection is a risk that more than half of all small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) take every day. Losing your data means losing your livelihood -- so why take the risk?  The reason is simple: it hasn't been affordable.  Not until now.

Introducing the Symform Cooperative Storage CloudTM
Our solution is as cost-efficient and reliable as the Internet itself.   That's because it is built on the same principles. By encrypting your data and redundantly storing it on nodes in the network, Symform provides a convenient and affordable offsite storage and disaster recovery solution.  We have eliminated the need for clumsy, unreliable backup tapes and expensive data center-based online systems. No tapes and no per GB fees -- sounds good, right? Simply ask your IT Service Provider about Symform and you can stop worrying about data loss forever.

Giveaway: Normal raffle items- Symform will be giving away a 1TB USB Drive

REMINDER: RSVP so we know how much pizza to order!

Results from Customer Focused Design Meeting PDF Print E-mail
The Customer Focused Design team was very appreciative of the time PacITPros spent participating in the event at the May 5th meeting.  They saw a lot of really good ideas and value come out of the session.

Overall, the three groups provided:
  • Group 1 (Kevin Lane) - 15  high level requirements, with 97 individual sticky requirements.
  • Group 2 (Robert DeLuca) - 18 high level requirements, with 54 individual sticky requirements.
  • Group 3 (Pat Fetty) - 16 high level requirements, with 174 individual sticky requirements.
That information was distilled into the following series of slides: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3

"Customer Importance" - this provides the prioritization of the requirements that were generated.

"Current Ability" - This is the PacITPros ranking of Microsoft’s ability to deliver this requirement right now based on the technology Microsoft provides in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008R2.  The ranking numbers are:
  • 1 = Microsoft doesn't deliver this at all
  • 2-3 = you can do this with significant workarounds and/or 3rd party solutions
  • 4-7 = Mircosoft delivers this with minimal workarounds or other applications
  • 8-9 = Microsoft delivers this with no workarounds
  • 10 = Microsoft couldn’t do this any better
"Improvement Pareto" - The requirements and the ability rankings are calculated together to determine the improvement areas needed for focus.   Areas with high importance but low ability are areas that Microsoft needs to put some work into.  Areas that are low mean that Microsoft needs less investment and effort to deliver what is needed.
